Tungnath (Chopta)

Tungnath, located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, is the highest Shiva temple in the world, situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters. It is one of the Panch Kedar temples and is believed to have been built by the Pandavas. According to legend, Lord Shiva's arms appeared here when he tried to avoid the Pandavas after the Kurukshetra war.

The temple is accessible via a 3.5 km trek from Chopta, often called the "Mini Switzerland of India" due to its lush meadows and breathtaking Himalayan views. The trek continues to Chandrashila Peak (4,000 meters), offering panoramic views of Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba peaks.

Tungnath temple remains open from May to November, while Chopta is a year-round destination for trekking, camping, and birdwatching. It is a must-visit for both spiritual seekers and adventure lovers.
